April 2015 - Iron Knob Crusher - Arrium

Iron Knob Mine site is located 50km NW of Whyalla, it was the first mine opened by BHP back in the early days when they started manufacturing steel in the Whyalla Plant. The mine was closed some 20 years ago due what was then classed as a poor quality ore. Due to improved technology in steel making and the ability to blend ores to achieve the desired quality the mine site has been re-opened and is currently a key provider of ore for export through the Arrium Port at Whyalla.

The project included re-development of an open pit mine, the installation of a conventional mobile crushing circuit complete with lump and fines screening and a stacking capability which allows loading on to trains for transport to Whyalla and the Port.

As part of this project ICE Engineering were awarded the contract for the Electrical construction and installation work associated with the project.

ICE Engineering scope included the following works:

  • HV/LV Transformer installation and connection
  • LV Switchroom installation
  • All Cable supports
  • Electrical & Instrumentation cabling terminations and testing
